ADI Part 1 pass mark
The ADI Part 1 theory test has two parts and you must pass both in the same sitting. The multiple-choice part also has a minimum score for every band, not just an overall score.
The multiple-choice pass mark
- These rules apply in Great Britain. The ADI part 1 test works differently in Northern Ireland. [1]
- You have 1 hour and 30 minutes to answer 100 multiple-choice questions. [1]
- There are 25 questions in each of 4 categories: road procedure; traffic signs and signals, car control, pedestrians and mechanical knowledge; driving test, disabilities, and the law; and publications and instructional techniques. [1]
- To pass, you need an overall score of at least 85 out of 100 and at least 20 out of 25 in each of the 4 categories. [1]
- You fail if you score 85 or higher overall but do not score high enough in each of the 4 categories. [1]
The hazard perception pass mark
- To pass the hazard perception part, you need at least 57 points out of 75. [1]
- You must pass both parts to pass the test. [1]
If you fail
- The letter you get at the test centre tells you which parts you did not score enough points on. [1]
- You must book and take the full test again, and wait at least 3 working days before taking it again. [1]
- You have to pay the full test fee again for every retake. [2]
If you pass
- Your pass certificate number lasts for 2 years. You must qualify as an ADI in that time, or you will have to start the application process again. [1]
