How many questions are in ADI Part 1, and how long is it?
ADI Part 1 is a theory test in two parts: 100 multiple-choice questions, then a hazard perception test of 14 video clips. You book and take them as a single test.
The multiple-choice questions
- These rules apply in Great Britain. The ADI part 1 test works differently in Northern Ireland. [1]
- There are 2 parts to the test, multiple-choice questions and hazard perception, and you book and take them as a single test. [1]
- You have 1 hour and 30 minutes to answer 100 multiple-choice questions. [1]
- There are 25 questions in each of 4 categories. [1]
- Before the test starts you get instructions on how it works and the chance to do a practice question to get used to the screens. [1]
- You can flag questions to come back to, and go back to any question to review and change your answer at any point. [1]
- You can finish the multiple-choice part once you have answered all of the questions. You do not have to use the full 1 hour and 30 minutes. [1]
- If you have a reading difficulty, you can ask for more time to do the multiple-choice part. You must send proof of the reading difficulty to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency. [1]
The hazard perception test
- You can have a break of up to 3 minutes before the hazard perception test starts. [1]
- You are shown a video about how it works, then you watch 14 video clips. Each clip contains at least one developing hazard, and one clip contains 2. [1]
- You can score up to 5 points for each developing hazard, and the pass mark is 57 points out of 75. [1]
On the day
- You must arrive 15 minutes before your test starts. If you are late, the test is cancelled and you lose your money. [1]
- You get the result at the test centre after taking the test, and you must pass both parts to pass. [1]
