How to book your ADI Part 1 test
You can book ADI Part 1 once your application to start the ADI qualifying process has been accepted. The multiple-choice and hazard perception parts are booked as a single test.
When you can book
- These rules apply in Great Britain. The ADI part 1 test works differently in Northern Ireland. [1]
- You can book your ADI part 1 test when your application to start the ADI qualifying process has been accepted. [1]
- It is the first of 3 tests you have to pass to qualify as an ADI, and it is a theory test. [1]
- There are 2 parts, multiple-choice questions and hazard perception. You book and take them as a single test, and you must pass both. [1]
The fee
- The ADI part 1 test costs £81 in Great Britain. ADI test fees are set by DVSA. [2]
- You have to pay the full amount again if you do not pass and want to take the test again. [2]
- There are different fees for taking the ADI qualifying tests and registering in Northern Ireland. [2]
What to tell DVSA when you book
- If you have a reading difficulty, say so when you book. You can then ask for an English voiceover, which lets you hear the test instructions and questions through headphones. [1]
- You can ask for more time on the multiple-choice part. You must send DVSA proof of your reading difficulty, and you are told how to send it when you book. [1]
- A monitoring device for a medical condition can only be used if DVSA approved it when you booked. Personal belongings can only go into the test room if DVSA approved them when you booked. [1]
- If you did not tell DVSA about a monitoring device, cancel your appointment and book a new test. You get a full refund if you give at least 3 clear working days' notice. When you rebook, select 'Yes' when asked if you need support. [1]
Changing, checking and rebooking
- You can change the date of your test after you have booked it, and check your appointment details if you have lost your booking confirmation. [1]
- The refund notice above is the one the ADI part 1 guidance gives for the monitoring device case. For any other change or cancellation, check the terms on GOV.UK when you make it. [1]
- If you change your name after booking, bring proof such as a marriage certificate or deed poll. Without proof, you must cancel and book a new test in your new name using your new driving licence number. [1]
- If you failed and want to resit, rebook your ADI part 1 test and choose a date at least 3 working days after your last test. [1]
